چکیده

Forthcoming CMB experiments will allow us to accurately investigate the power spectrum at very small scales (l > 1000). In this context, we forecast the level of the primary anisotropies, given the actual CMB measurements. The secondary anisotropies generated after matter-radiation decoupling contribute additional power in the tail of the CMB power spectrum. Together with the primary anisotropies, we therefore compute the predicted power spectra for three dominant secondary effects induced by photon scattering. We predict these secondary contributions in flat cosmological models for parameters in agreement (to within 2σ) with the values allowed by current estimates.

Reproducing the observed cosmic microwave background anisotropies with causal scaling seeds

During recent years it has become clear that global O(N) defects and U(1) cosmic strings do not lead to the pronounced first acoustic peak in the power spectrum of anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background ~CMB! which has recently been observed to high accuracy. Inflationary models cannot easily accommodate the low second peak indicated by the data. Here we construct causal scaling seed m...

The Damping Tail of Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies

By decomposing the damping tail of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies into a series of transfer functions representing individual physical e†ects, we provide ingredients that will aid in the reconstruction of the cosmological model from small-scale CMB anisotropy data. We accurately calibrate the model-independent e†ects of di†usion and reionization damping, which provide potentiall...

The Cosmic Microwave Background: beyond the Power Spectrum

Much recent work on the cosmic microwave background (CMB) has focussed on the angular power spectrum of temperature anisotropies and particularly on the recovery of cosmological parameters from acoustic peaks in the power spectrum. However, there is more that can conceivably be done with CMB measurements. Here I briefly survey a few such ideas: cross-correlation with other cosmic backgrounds as...

BOOMERanG Data Suggest a Purely Baryonic Universe

The amplitudes of peaks in the angular power spectrum of anisotropies in the microwave background radiation depend on the mass content of the universe. The second peak should be prominent when cold dark matter is dominant, but is depressed when baryons dominate. Recent microwave background data are consistent with a purely baryonic universe with Ωm = Ωb and ΩΛ ≈ 1. Subject headings: cosmic micr...

Cosmic Microwave Background Observables and Their Cosmological Implications

We show that recent measurements of the power spectrum of cosmic microwave background anisotropies by Boomerang and MAXIMA can be mainly characterized by four observables : the position of the Ðrst acoustic peak, the height of the Ðrst peak relative to COBE normalization, l1\ 206 ^ 6 ; H1\ 7.6^ 1.4 ; the height of the second peak relative to the Ðrst, and the height of the third H2\ 0.38^ 0.04 ...
